Loyola Student Auditions

FOR LOYOLA STUDENTS

The Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestras are ensembles-in-residence at Loyola University, which means Loyola students may audition for the most advanced group, the Youth Orchestra, and participate for credit (or by auditing) in a phenomenal orchestra! Besides performing, you can read about other opportunities below, too.

ABOUT THE YOUTH ORCHESTRA

Because this is the most advanced group, the “YO” performs only professional-level symphonic works, and its members are older high school and college students. Students may also participate in chamber ensembles coordinated by GBYO and coached by local professionals.

The GBYO is a leading pre-professional orchestra in the region, so we are excited that the Loyola-GBYO partnership allows serious students to perform with an award-winning orchestra as part of their college experience.

REHEARSALS AND CONCERTS

Since the GBYO performance schedule is typically a little longer than the University schedule, and because rehearsals are at the Timonium campus, GBYO is able to make special allowances for Loyola students to participate. Students can be provided with transportation to rehearsals, and interested students may be offered free housing to participate in the final concert at the Meyerhoff. (If students cannot remain in the area for every concert, some may participate in rehearsals only.)

AUDITIONS

Loyola students may audition for the Fall semester at the Evergreen campus by appointment; other audition opportunities can be made throughout the year. Because some instruments have a limited number of open positions (especially winds, brass, and percussion), students are encouraged to contact the GBYO with their interest as soon as possible.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

As a non-profit organization with diverse activities, we have a number of opportunities for Loyola students to partner with GBYO in its mission, both for musicians, and non-musicians. Our remarkable Bridges Program each year looks for talented string teachers, both as instructors and as teaching assistants. Non-string musicians can also serve as teaching assistants. We also have opportunities for Loyola students to join us as volunteers to learn about various aspects of Arts Administration: concert production, marketing and development, and information technology, to name a few. To explore opportunities with our staff, simply reach out through the contact link below.
